Dan Whittaker
Owner / Senior Indoor Environmental Professional (CIEC)
Dan Whittaker is one of the Southeast’s leading Indoor Environmental Professionals (IEPs), and the owner of ESG, a firm nationally recognized for its scientific, data-driven approach to indoor air quality and building health. With over 17 years of field experience, Dan has consulted on complex IAQ cases across government, institutional, and commercial sectors, and is regarded as one of the most qualified IEPs operating in North Carolina.
Dan is a Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC)—the highest credential available in the field—and a frequent presenter at national conferences, including multiple appearances at the IAQA National Convention, where he has presented on remediation standards, building science, and indoor air quality relevance. His investigative skillset bridges technical IAQ testing with building science insight, enabling him to craft detailed remediation protocols, occupant safety plans, and expert witness reports that stand up in both construction and legal environments.
Beyond indoor air, Dan’s broader environmental expertise spans atmospheric science, water intrusion events, and post-disaster assessments. He has contributed to national and international environmental research projects and presented at regional and national severe weather and emergency response conferences. Dan’s ability to contextualize indoor environmental problems within larger environmental systems brings unmatched value to ESG's ability to help clients.
Dan is also a certified instructor for the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors, an educator at Randolph Community College, and a frequent technical contributor to the Carolina Weather Group, where he shares insights on storm dynamics and environmental risk.
In his personal time, Dan is a seasoned storm chaser and environmental photojournalist. His photography—documenting extreme weather and environmental conditions—has been featured in major publications and research initiatives. His work can be found at LightExplored.com.
