We perform both mold testing and mold assessments. Both processes involve an investigator (who is a certified Indoor Environmental Professional) taking air and/or surface samples in the area and delivering them to an independent, accredited lab for analysis. Once analyzed, the investigator will let you know the results, informing you which type(s) of mold were found, and in what quantities.
In the case of a mold assessment, a visual inspection of the area & the taking of additional IAQ data is included, as well as a more detailed report that contains recommendations on how to mitigate the mold. Read more about mold assessments here.
We can perform either of these services on any type of building. If you're not sure which is right for you, call our office at 336-373-1538, or contact us using the contact form below, and we can help you determine which service is best for your needs.
Mold is a type of fungi that is found almost everywhere. The spores are usually harmless in small amounts, but when they come into contact with moisture (for example, from a leak, a flood, or excess humidity) they can grow. When this happens, spores are released into the air, where they can be inhaled by the building inhabitants. This can be a health risk, especially if the mold is toxigenic or an individual has mold allergies or a weakened immune system.
There are three types of mold: allergenic (can affect those with allergies and asthma), pathogenic (can cause infections, especially in those with compromised immune systems) and toxigenic (actively harmful to living things).
Toxigenic molds are usually what people are referring to when they say “black mold.” However, not all black mold is toxigenic, and not all toxigenic mold is black.
The most common symptoms of mold exposure are respiratory reactions, including runny nose, sinus congestion, sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes, sore throat, and wheezing. Headaches are also common, and asthma attacks are often triggered by mold. Mold exposure can also affect the skin, the digestive system, and the brain. Symptoms can vary depending on the amount and type of mold present.
