Formaldehyde Testing
Formaldehyde is a gas that is known to be dangerous to human health when inhaled over a period of time. It can cause headaches, allergic reactions, respiratory issues, and even cancer. Children and the elderly are especially susceptible to formaldehyde-related issues. Visit the EPA’s page Facts About Formaldehyde to learn more.
Formaldehyde is used in the construction of various common household items, such as furniture and building materials. Wood products are a common source of formaldehyde gas, as are many paints, finishes, and varnishes. Because of this, research indicates that many newer homes have unsafe levels of this gas in the air. ESG’s own testing of new and existing homes has often produced surprising data, with formaldehyde levels registering above established threshold levels in many buildings.
ESG offers on-site testing for airborne formaldehyde vapor. The test device provides a detection range of 0-0.4 ppm (parts per million) within only 30 minutes.
ESG has found that formaldehyde testing is very especially useful for the following types of buildings:
- New homes
- Woodworking shops
- Medical & veterinary offices
- Mobile homes
As well as places that have, make, or use:
- Coating & varnishing
- Engineered wood products
- Laminate flooring
